Important information for all attendees of the photo_cph Studio Photography Workshop:

Line working in the studio

Our model in my studio

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY!

I have booked our model for february 13th. We start PRECISELY at 10am, where I will do a brief pre-shoot meeting with the model and MUA. Here the model, MUA and I will pick out three outfits and discuss hair and makeup for the three looks we will be shooting throughout the day. At 10:15 am, Line will be in hair and makeup from 10:15 am through 11:30 am, while I rig the lighting setup for the first session. I will explain what I do, and why. ALL communication from me at the meetup will be in English!

I am shooting with Profoto and Broncolor generators, heads and modifyers, and there will be ample opportunity to discuss gear, choices and cheaper alternatives to the setups I will be using.

I will be shooting a few frames of Line, to show you all a couple of ways to approach photographing a model, and then everyone in turn will be given opportunity to shoot with Line for a few minutes using your OWN cameras. I will obviously be available to supervise should you want a bit of input during your individual sessions with Line.

Line will then do a dress change, while I change the lighting setup for the second session. This would also be the time for you all to get your lunch out and get a bite to eat (remember to bring your own lunch). After lunch and lighting/wardrobe change, I will again be shooting a few frames of Line in the new lighting setup, and again… everyone will be given a few minutes to photograph Line in this new setup. As before, I will again be available to supervise if you want me to assist.

After everyone has had an opportunity to photograph Line in the second setup, I will do a quick change in the lighting setup, while Line does a third wardrobe change, and we will all have a chance to get a cup of coffee, tee, water or a softdrink and a snack.

After the final session (that can be allowed to run a bit longer, depending on the time we have left) we will have a talk evaluating the three sessions as well as the workshop and you will be given opportunity to ask any remaining questions.

I usually like to keep my workshops quite informal, and despite this not being a workshop per say (I usually only do small very specialized and tailored workshops for a considerable fee), I think everyone will benefit from having the meetup the same way. Therefore, please feel free to ask questions as the day progresses, and I will do my best to answer.

I ask that you all arrive ON TIME! For photographers, assistants, models and anyone else associated with a professional photoshoot, being ON TIME actually means being on set changed and ready to start AT LEAST 15 minutes (or even better; 30 minutes) prior to the set time of the event. I always start ON TIME, and if you are late, you will be missing out. I won’t lock the door off course, but you may miss  important information, and I don’t want to waste everyone else’s time by repeating information that already has been shared with those that were there on time (ie. at least 15 minutes before set time). I will be in the studio at least an hour before we start.

Pending booking of my MUA, I expect the price for the meetup will be around 400,- kr. per attendee, but I will keep you posted as soon as the MUA is on board. I will be asking you all to transfer payment to me via Mobile Pay (or bank transfer) no later than a week before the meetup. More details on this when I have final booking confirmation from the MUA.

To make sure there are no misunderstandings: I will not be receiving ANY payment myself for hosting this meetup!

You will off course retain full copyright on all the images you shoot during this meetup (that goes without saying). But because I – as a pro shooter – always have to keep the business side of things clean and without misunderstanding, I will be asking the model to formally release the images to each of you on a model release form. Due to the fact that she will be working well below normal fee, you will be allowed the use of your images for personal and promotional use. However, you may not license or sell the images to a third party. I hope this finds agreement with all of you.

MAKE SURE you know how to set your camera on manual settings, and know how to manually set both aperture, shutter as well as ISO on your camera. I always shoot RAW and suggest you all do the same. In addition: Make sure your camera has a compatible hotshoe (or bring a converter) for flash. I know that Nikon and Canon have compatible hotshoe’s for flash, but I also know that f.ex. Sony’s hotshoe is not immediately compatible without a converter. I cannot speak for Pentax, Minolta or any other brand of camera, so make SURE you research this well in advance for YOUR camera brand. I can offer either wireless triggering (using PocketWizards) or cable release (which also requires a flash sync connector on your camera). Please make SURE you have a DSLR that works with either of these triggering methods. Should someone show up with a camera that is not compatible, I will be able to allow that person the use of on of my cameras, but dont expect to be able to bring images home with you, unless you bring a USB-stick. Without that, you may have to wait till I get home, and can share your raw-files through a folder on DropBox.

Finally: We will be in a professional photostudie (my studio) and there will be lots of things to trip over (cables on the floor, lightstands and gear). Please conduct yourself’s accordingly.

Daniel Todorov (member of cph_photo) has offered to help with the cleaning, if one more will help in that department, we can keep the cost down. Send me a PM on meetup.com asap if you would like to help. This will add an hour to your attendance, once everyone else has left. We need the floors sweep’ed and washed, surfaces whiped down, as well as a bit of washing up. It should take no more than an hour, if two people help out.

Although it may not appear so, Line was wearing underwear in this photo, she was merely posed in such a way as to suggest nudity and hide it.
